Gelnhausen, Germany
So, the morning after the Monks show in Frankfurt, Gary, Cindy, Irene, Dave and I packed up our stuff and headed for Gelnhausen, Germany, a little town about 40kms east of Frankfurt (30 minute train ride). Gary, Dave and Eddie were stationed at an Army base in Gelnhausen in the 1960s - it's where they met. The Tourquays - first incarnation of the band - started here. It was a grand time, filled with interesting people, relaxing exploration and amazing German food. Yes, I've learned to like it. Or maybe I just learned how to read the menu and order.
Gelnhausen is a beautiful little German city, with old decorative buildings abutted against each other, tiny cars zipping through cobbled streets, traditional German shop owners, an amazing array of eateries, cafes and pubs, a gentle pace, great walking trails and just the right amount of history to satiate your appetite for a few days.
Below are my rambling notes on what we did and how I perceived this little burg. If you want to see just images, select the "Look" category under Gelnhausen to the left.
